I just ran across your letter. Don't know any history but what I just read but I can tell you Cloudy Valley is great! Reminds me of the movie - A Walk in the Clouds. It is a mystical name - intriguing enough to want to go visit.

[...] Soon after starting the blog we asked readers to help us try and conjure up an appropriate name for the winery. Thanks to Tom Wark we got a nice bump in traffic as well as some quality suggestions from him and others (Insomnia Winery anyone?). I also got a chance in that post to explain our motivation for starting the winery. In short, it’s all about keeping our family close and connected. [...]

David, Tom and Bradley, thank so much for your suggestions. I'm definately going to run a few of them up the flag pole and see what the others think. Your input is much appreciated.

Chris, we all had a good laugh over the Insomnia Winery suggestion. Good stuff. Thank you as well for spreading the word. Don't worry too much about me losing sleep over the winery name. This is the FUN part (well, its all fun) of the process. We're not reaching out to the blogosphere out of desperation, but out of a confidence that more minds > few.
Added your site to the blogroll as well. Look forward to reading more of your stuff.

EDIT: Chris, I finally see where you got the impression that I really wasn't sleeping! The post times in my wordpress blog timestamp feature were set to Eastern Time. I'm still up late, but I'm not a zombie.

I will put up a link to your naming contest on my blog at WineGuy.com. Sounds like you are maybe losing a little sleep on the name and when the baby comes you may lose a bit more. Good luck on naming the winery and in the spirit of wine lovers everywhere here is my submission:

Insomnia Winery - "The grapes may sleep but we never do!"

Cheers!

New winery, new baby. Wow. You guys are just busting out.
Genesis Valley.
Too biblical?
Lighthouse
Tayylor's Run. (Insert your own kid's name instead of mine)
Best of luck

OK.....I had to give it a shot on the names:

Ground Bound (ties to he soil....and catchy sounding...memorable)

NeedlePoint (Liked your words about "knitting together" the family

Whole Cloth (see above...plus...nice symetrical letters when used together)

The Family Estate (I can't believe this simple, evocative name isn't in use)

Cloud Bound (sounds a bit better than "cloudy valley")

Fog Bound (it really is about the fog)

Laguna Heights (Everyone uses "ridge")

Steadfast (It's a cool sounding word and suggests your determinatiion)

Kin (short, easy to remember, and it's all about the family)

I wish you all the luck in the world & look forward to keeping up with your progress, so I hope you manage to keep up the blog with all the work you are going to have on your plate with this project AND a new baby!! I only just got into this blogging stuff, but I'll put a link on my blog site, as I will be watching with interest.
