Decanter is reporting that a LA production company has purchased the film rights to George Taber’s book Judgment of Paris. What’s interesting is that they wont be focusing on the French.
They have said that they intend to focus on the interplay between Spurrier and the Californians rather than the French angle, ending with the triumph of the Californian ‘underdogs’ in 1976, when Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 1973 and Ridge Montebello 71 beat First Growths such as Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 70 and Haut Brion 70 in a blind tasting in Paris.
Given that the subtitle of the book is California vs. France, I’m at a loss as to why they wouldn’t “play up” the French angle. You have to think that a nuanced story showing both sides would make for better entertainment (and education) than a simple white hat vs. black hat feel-good flick. Meh.
