New Cell Phone With Built-In Breathalyzer

Posted on Wednesday 28 June 2006

Those wild and crazy Koreans have gone and designed a phone to keep you from driving drunk and drunk dialing. From Cnet Gadgets Blog:

The LP4100 has a built-in breath analyzer that, when blown into by an intoxicated partier, gives a warning and displays a nifty little animation of a car swerving on a road and crashing into traffic cones. (Which should be easy for even the tipsy mind to understand.)

The phone can also be programmed to block selected numbers in the address book–bosses, moms, exes, pizzerias–if the breath analyzer records a blood-alcohol concentration over 0.08.

It’s always nice to have some technology watching our backs when we’ve had a few too many, but the pizzeria will never be on my drunk dialing do not call list. That’s just crazy talk.

The phone will be available soon in the US, and wouldn’t be a bad item to have on hand during your next visit to the wine country. Who knows, maybe wineries will start selling them…
