It's important to remember WHY California and other New World wines will always be compared to French, as Eric states in his killer last paragraph: The answer is Tradition, not quality. France and Europe were the undisputed champs of wine quality for so long that it is tradition to hold them up as the benchmark. They've earned it. But let's be clear, tradition and quality are not the same thing. I don't think it's possible to argue with a straight face that French wines are better than American. However, it's tradtion to make this assertion.</description>
