Feedback Time: Vote On Our Label Design

Posted on Tuesday 1 August 2006

If you would, take a moment to vote on one of the following label designs. Since the beginning of this winery blog I’ve been using it as a forum for gathering feedback from you so I figured I’d take this opportunity to continue the tradition.

We are split internally yet again on extremely subjective matters of design, so your input will go a long way toward helping me finalize this project. The label images are below and at the end of the post is a poll you can use to cast your vote. And please leave comments!

Label # 23

(there are really only 4 labels, but I’ve randomized the numbering for you digit partisans who always seem to prefer the number One. Bigots.)

Label 76

Label 32

Label 21

I tried to vote for Label 21 but I don’t know if the voting system worked. So here’s my vote.

    A few comments:

I like the simpler gray lines of 76 and 21. I think 23 and 32 look too much like the calligraphic fog effect of the Sea Smoke label. I also like shifting the vintage up toward the winery name and away from the text at the bottom; having the date down below makes the label visually bottom-heavy. Also, the date is too close to the “Russian River Valley” text in 23 and 32. Finally, I like putting the bottle size centered on its own line below the alcohol content. It’s a much less cluttered look; each text element is visually distinct, but there’s a coherence to the label as a whole this way.

So yeah, 21. I prefer the tan color scheme to the gray overall, which is why 76 lost out. The solid border differentiation of 76 also put me off a bit; the blended color looks better to me.

How about a “none of the above” option? Too much meaningless squiggle stuff above and below the brand in all of them, but especially in 23 and 32.

No can do on that one johng. The squiggles were already decided upon here.

    But thanks for the comment.

Hi! I found you via TWoP, and I cast my vote for my favorite label (#23, since you asked. I like the more intricate ’squiggles’ though I would prefer if they were more symmetrical, though I do like the color and bordering on #76 as well)… Any chance we can get those updates now? Thanks! :-)

#21 clearly! Too many squiggles detracts from your brand (Capozzi) because it gets confusing between the squiggles and the letter.

BTW: Check the other link here and just cracked up when I saw your wife was on “Sorority Life” on MTV. That show used to crack me up (my wife thought I was a freak). Don’t remember the “Make it a double sweetie” line.

Keep the logo clean…it’s very nice. Keep the vintage date off he logo. Like the darker Tan.

    Joel,

If only everyone were like you. I’m sure Candace would love for “make it a double sweetie” to be shot execution style and thrown in a river.

But as a loving, compassionate husband I could never allow that to happen. ;)

Label 21 print layout with the 32 darker gradient all the way, Daddio. Looks Sweet. Can’t wait to taste it. Peace.

    23. Keep it simple !!! That’s a cardinal rule of design.
