A product derived from a single variety is a varietal product, vs some kind of blend. one could say that in a wine shop there is a wide variety of choices, including wines labeled by place, by fanciful name, or by the grape variety they are made from. But the latter are termed varietal wines. i disagree with your variety vs varietal concept. grapevines, apples, whatever, all have varieties.
