Josh,

I never thought I would do this but I have made the choice to spend less money on wine. I began collecting in the early 1990's and I have seen all my favorites triple or quadruple in price. $40-50 per bottle is not in the cards for me as I have a start up to launch. But. . .

Here is my trade off. I spend the usual $40+ on my favorite varietal Cabernet. I then prioritize my spending by my favorites ie Chardonnay, Zin, Pinot, and Syrah.

My former taste for Rombauer, Shafer's Red Shoulder Ranch, El Molino, Mi Sueno, Kistler, and the like have been replaced by Carmel Rd, Bernardas, Hess, and bottles $9-16 in range.

It is all about finding value and choosing your favorites.

What if you already own every cable from Best Buy? Is there a black market to resell these items? Ebay I guess. Thanks for the tips. I will not be slashing my Pinot budget anytime soon.

Not only will eliminating those fancy coffee drinks improve your bottom line, it will also improve your bottom - those things are LOADED with calories! Get yourself a cheap coffee maker and learn to drink it black!

Another tip - If you like a wine/winery, consider joining their wine club. You'll probably get the wine you were going to buy anyway at a better price.

Brilliant posting, Josh!

All these teeny-tiny ways add up. Try this one: If you drink "fancy coffee drinks" instead of a cuppa Joe, just downsize. There is really little difference in satisfaction between 8 oz and 12 oz or between 14 oz and a huge Venti! However, the $ will add up to a gorgeous bottle of Pinot in just a couple of weeks. If you switch to just good coffee - even doctored up to a "Ghetto Latte" with the free fixins - your Littorai is just around the corner!

Good suggestions. Here's a few more.

Review your Cable/Satellite bill. Are you paying for channels that you no longer watch? We recently dropped HBO and Showtime in favour of a subscription based DVD rental service. We found that we weren't watching enough movies to justify the cost. Now we are saving money and watching up to 6 new movies a week.

Check your phone bill. I was overpaying mine slightly and discovered that it had built up a credit balance of over $50. Also do you really need a landline *and* a cellphone? Make sure that you're not wasting money on calls too. Calling my office from my home phone costs 10 cents a minute because it's a "Zone 3" call - that's ridiculous when I can call the UK for 2c a minute! Use your cellphone minutes or use a pre-paid service such as OneSuite.
